Carlos Sousa, Researcher at IPMA’s Research Vessels and Ocean Observatories Group, participated in the 14th Buoy Workshop, promoted by the Marine Technology Society, which took place between September 19 and 22, 2022, in Wilmington, North Carolina, USA.

The paper entitled “Deployment of an oceanographic mooring array in SW Iberian Margin: the EMSO-PT experience” presented and promoted the recent efforts undertaken by IPMA and CCMAR Algarve within the implementation of the EMSO-PT project – European Multidisciplinary Seafloor and Water Column Observatory.

The recent installation of a pilot oceanographic mooring array on the continental shelf break offshore Sagres, which collected water column parameters focusing on Essential Ocean Variables, was described. The system includes the EMSO Generic Instrument Module (EGIM) multi-sensor platform, an ADCP and a water column profiler, the Wirewalker. The data, meanwhile collected, will be made available through the EMSO-ERIC channels and the weareatlantic platform, under development within the Atlantic Observatory – Data and Monitoring Infrastructure project.
