Internship at NNIO on the distribution of the mediterranean water based on ARGO data
On July 26th, 2023, Pedro Daniel Neto Parreira, finalist of the Environmental and Marine Technologies degree at the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal (IPS), presented and defended his internship report, entitled “3D distribution of Mediterranean water in the North Atlantic”.
The internship took place at IPMA’s Research Vessels and Ocean Observatories Group between February and July 2023, under the guidance of Dr Tanya Silveira and Dr Mafalda Carapuço, being a relevant contribution to the Pre-Defined Project “Atlantic Observatory – Data and Monitoring Infrastructure” funded by the EEA Grants Blue Growth Programme.
Pedro used the webODV programme and the Argo database (25 years of data) to describe the distribution of Mediterranean water, mapping its zone of influence after intrusion in the North Atlantic.
NNIO continues to collaborate with the School of Technology of the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal, promoting the reconciliation of knowledge through teaching in IPS and training in the professional environment of IPMA, and congratulates Pedro for the completion of his Internship and Degree.
